6 Ways to Keep Your Skin Hydrated, Glowing & Protected This Summer

The summer sun can take a toll on our skin if we aren’t careful. Sunburn, tanning, and too much sun exposure can actually lead to premature wrinkling, unwanted moles, and dry crepey skin. No one wants that!

So we talked to megan at HiLovely to get the latest skincare tips on how to prevent the summer skin damage and get the summer skin glow!

Here are 6 ways you can keep your skin hydrated, protected, and glowing this summer.

1. Exfoliate your body with a homemade body scrub

Organic sugar or fine sea salt mixed with a few favorite oils, such as olive oil, grapeseed, jojoba, coconut or avocado, work great together. Add a few drops of your favorite essential oils and some fresh thyme leaves for an extra sensory experience. I like to use mine in the shower. Your skin will thank you and you will be glowing afterward.

2. Invest in and apply a body oil

Body oil protects and soothes the skin and helps it retain moisture. Applying it at night before bed has the most benefits as the oil has a chance to really set in on your skin while you sleep.

3. Drink lots of fluids

More specifically drink lots of water to keep your skin hydrated and supple from the inside out. HiLovely is currently crushing on hint watermelon!

4. Protect your skin, but get some vitamin D

Instead of laying out, opt for healthy doses of 15 minute sun exposure for an adequate amount of vitamin D. Also wear protective clothing, a hat and sunglasses and when choosing sunscreen, opt for a physical sunscreen with natural minerals, like titanium dioxide and zinc oxide rather than chemical sunscreens which can have synthetic ingredients that can cause skin irritation and other adverse reactions.

5. Choose an eco-friendly bronzing self-tanner to help get your summer glow

Self-tanners have come a long way in a few years and there are many great ones that create a natural, radiant glow. Remember the golden rule with self-tanners … A little goes a long way.

6. Eat a lot of watermelons!

Yes, watermelon. It contains Lycopene, vitamins A, B, and C, and Citrulline which increases cardiovascular health and blood flow. Better blood flow means better-looking skin!

Enjoy your summer!
